Installation without bootloader

Asked by Dima_2005

Hello,
I want to install Ubuntu. I first did, on a seperate partition.
But the problem is that the primary boot loader was after the installation the one of ubuntu. But I want it to be the one of Vista...
After fixing the MBR, Ubuntu became unbootable (even if I go to ubuntu in Vista bootloader, it just keeps on loading and hangs at a black screen)...
So is it possible to have the Vista-bootloader as primary and just to intergrate the link to ubuntu bootloader?
Thnx

Hello,

I've done it quite a long time ago, but i just don't remember how. There are a few programs that allow editing Vista's MBR, some of them may include options for adding a Linux boot entry (anyways you'll need Grub installed on your Ubuntu partition, at least).

A fast Googling made me fall on that link, which seems to be relevant : http://port25.technet.com/archive/2006/10/13/Using-Vista_2700_s-Boot-Manager-to-Boot-Linux-and-Dual-Booting-with-BitLocker-Protection-with-TPM-Support.aspx

But don't forget that I don't have access on my Vista to the partition, because it has a special filesystem.
And the problem is that it's on different disks. I have on my primary disk the Vista installation (C:), on my secondary disk I have data (very important!), and I made a small partition of 10GB to install ubuntu on it.

When I was installing, I couldn't do it before reformatting the partition to some special format (don't remember which one), not NTFS or FAT32. So that was an additional problem.

I found a solution, there is an application to fix that.... EasyBCD and there is a tutorial:
