unity is giving me a ghost screen

Asked by Bob

I switched to Uinty it's just better. but now I get this ghost screen. I don't know what to call it. but I see the ubuntu logo with the 5 dots you see when you start up. I see my dock but it's set on hide till I go down and touch it, then the real dock shows. Also, I don't see my Wallch wallpaper but it's on and running. Im on 18.4.

Just so you know as far as I can tell everything is running fine. It starts I get online and all that. But I see that splash screen with the ghost of my dock. I've been looking around but all I find is people getting stuck at start up and nothing happens. Not knowing what to call it is making it hard to find out what is going on.

OK I found this. After 3 hours of searching But it's from 2011
This is what is happening. But being so old the instruction on where to go are outdated.

Someone writes the answer is,

The problem is the setting "Icons on Desktop", under the page "Desktop Icons". When this is turned off you get the login screen stuck as your background.

But where is this setting nowadays? so I can turn it on to see if it will work for me?

I wonder is a problem from 2011 is what is happening to me in 2019?

It did not work, I even did a restart to see if that would do it. It must be a different problem.

Been doing some reading. I'm wondering if I have the right display manager for Unity and could it have something to do with having. The login screen stuck over my desk top after being logged in.
