Tape on console :

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

You will get a text wizard, choose your card and configure it.

If that not solved your problem, Please try to give as more detail about error.

When I type this on the console nothing happens. Is there a prompt before the $ sign? This is the exact message I get when I boot up the computer "Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface). It is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the x server output to diagnose the problem?" If you say yes, then it shows EDID errors, and another error.

I have no idea how to get this working.

Sounds like you may have some corruption of your files. Was this a fresh install? If so, I'd re-download new ubuntu CD and test the ISO using the 'test disk' from the CD menu. (You could also test your current CD you have).

You should not have any errors using this unless you have errors directly related to xorg.

There is this bug that I found and may well be more:

Can you help with this problem?
