My interpretation of the information on https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Broadcom_BCM943142HM is that the standard Broadcom wl driver (version 6.30.223.126 or higher) should work.

I recommend that you try installing the package bcmwl-kernel-source

Just install the package bcmwl-kernel-source which is provided in the Ubuntu software repositories, e.g. with the command

sudo apt- install bcmwl-kernel-source

The easiest way would be to connect your laptop to a wired network and to install the bcmwl-kernel-source package with a single command.
Some USB WLAN stick work output of the box. Another possibility would be to temporarily borrow one and plug it into your system. If it works, you could then use that connection to install the driver for your built-in device.

If you cannot connect to a network, you have to install the required driver packages manually.
To be able to tell you the files to download and to install, we need some further information about your system.

What is the last part of the output of the command
uname -a
What release name do you get for the command
lsb_release -crid
Do you see a version number shown besides "installed" for the command
apt-cache policy dkms

Do you see any possibility to temporarily connect that new laptop to the internet?

If not, then this is ging to be laborious.
As far as I can see, you would need to download the following packages:
