xubuntu & ubuntu freezes at installing ,works for about 15 minutes then stops

Xubuntu & ubuntu freezes when trying to install what is the problem. I do not have any external Hard drives . From Keir Thomas book (ubuntu ) Saying that this process is a cake walk . I will not distroy the windows that is in the system or re install . It took several days to reset these old computers to reboot from the the cd-rom. I need help what's the the deal ?

¿Have you check the memory? You can use the memtest from Ubuntu CD and grub option for it. if it don't present any problem memory, you may see the dmesg on live. To do this, open a terminal (gnome-terminal p.e) and then, write tail -f /var/log/messages, wait until hang and keep the terminal window visible.
With this, you could see the error log.

antonio perez / What are you talking about . WHERE IS THIS gnome TERMINAL . / The memory test was good . The problems is still a problem.
xubuntu &ubuntu takes about a week to install .lol .

Also on one computer a message said / /bin/sh: can't access tty;job control turned off (initramfs )
Then then the nextday the computer was not working plus said no operating system. then 7hours later it had windows 2000 in it working fine .

How long are you RAM? The Ubuntu Desktop (livecd) require >192MbRam to run. If you have less than these, you must probe the Ubuntu Alternate versión. It use a very ligth installer and it have less problem than live install.

As we speak I am downloading the alternate cd of xubuntu

Have you got better results with alternate cd?
Other things that you can check is install the Ubuntu-server, and when it is installed, install the package ubuntu-desktop (for ubuntu install) or xubuntu-desktop (for xubuntu install)
