Ubuntu 18.04 Nautilus copy operation over-counts files

Asked by Ryan Budney

I'm copying files from one hard drive to another in Nautilus, watching the pie chart dialogue that describes the progress of the operation. When the operation completes, it tells me that 33833 files have been copied out of a total of 33832 files. i.e. it copied one more file than the number of files in the operation.

This isn't a big error but clearly Nautilus is having some trouble counting.

I don't know what caused the trouble -- there were a few merge queries during the operation, and a few overwrite/skip queries. Perhaps symbolic links are causing the problem?

I'll attach a photo if launchpad lets me.

it sounds like its copying the '.' file which is present in all folders in all Linux file systems

Can you help with this problem?
