Mouse speed to fast on Ubuntu 18.04

Asked by Phil F. Stock

Hello My Desktop PC has a AMD 3.0 GHz 4 core CPU & it has 16 GB memory I have my CD/DVD of Ubuntu 16.04 and learned to love it. I tried upgrading to 18.04 2 mouths ago but after trying all I could the mouse speed could not be set to my liking. So I uninstalled it and am back using Ubuntu 16.04 !
I tried xinput as in 16.04 on the 18.04 but could not find out how to set device accel constant deceleration (number) .
So I put in dconf-editor org/gnome/desktop/peripherals/mouse/speed (set default Value) to off. tried changing the custom value between -1to 1 in the next part I tried moving the mouse slider but it was so hard to slide that I could not get it to the right spot,
It would end up either to slow or to fast & some times the slider snapped back to the left making the mouse speed way to slow?
I have seen where others are having the same problem as I ?
I don't have a second computer as to keep 18.04 on so my I can't keep working on this mouse speed problem.
So my question is has any one slowed there mouse to the point where you need to go in system setting / mouse and use that slider to speed it up to your liking ?
This is what I do in Ubuntu 16.04
