webmail security

Asked by peter ratcliffe

My email comes via mail.fireflyuk.net which is on an icon on the firefox browser. When I click on that it brings up an error message " This connection is not secure. Logins entered here could be compromised".
The full address produced by the icon is http://mail.fireflyuk.net and this has a padlock symbol. If I type https://mail.fireflyuk.net/surgeweb into my browser (firefox web browser) the address comes up with a green symbol to show it is protected. How can I save the https this address so that it always comes up. Alternatively how can I activate an appropriate security tool?

Can you change the icon to use HTTPS then.....? Update the icon in the browser.

Thank you for your suggestion, but I don't know how. I've tried to find a way, so can you instruct me? In simple term please as I am not well versed in Ubuntu and I'm finding 18.04 difficult. Look forward to hearing from you, Peter Ratcliffe

When I click on the mail.fireflyuk icon I get a drop down menu offering,

Open link in tab & window
Bookmark link
Save as or to pocket
Copy
Search google for mail.fireflyuk
Send
Inspect element

Of these Search Google for mail.fireflyuk takes me to fireflyinternet listing all my active emails, with a green padlock on the top bar. Questions arising are how do I replace the icon which doesn't work (it comes up with http -no s) and can I get it to be in menu on the left of the window, sorry I don't know what it is called. Thank you for your help so far and lets hope we are nearly there. Peter Ratcliffe

Thanks for your suggestion, Manfred, but I am even more confused. Nothing I do has the expected result. Can you email me a simple step by step route through the maze? In the meantime I will keep trying.

I doubt that I can explain this better than the link that I gave in my previous answer.

Open Firefox
In the address par type (or paste) https://mail.fireflyuk.net
Does the address bar show a green lock icon, or do you receive that "insecure" warning?
If it is a green lock icon, then klick on the star icon at the end of the address bar.
You will get a pop-up to create a bookmark.
Done.
