Ubuntu 14.04 syslog not updating the moment before freezing

Asked by fadi alami

I am new to linux systems, i am using Ubuntu 14.04 , the problem is that the system freezes after i run my software, my software is a complicated software and it uses a lot of hardware devices; i will not enter in my software details, but my software conflict with one of the hardware devices causing a freezing in the system full freeze.
To solve this problem i need to check the debug messages (but) the debug messages don't record the messages just before the freeze, so i don't understand how the debug messages can be useful if it didn't save the messages just before the freezing. I enter the var/log/ syslog file but the last minute before the freeze is missing!!!!
any solution please, how can i save the debug messages to the last moment before the freezing.
Thank you

Support for Ubuntu 10.04 has ended more than three years ago. It is not possible to give much help for obsolete versions. You should upgrade to a supported Ubuntu release as soon as possible (as long as your software is compatible with newer operating systems).

What are you doing at such "freeze"? Just power off? Have you tried Alt-SysRq+REISUB (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_SysRq_key )

After the freeze i can't do anything only I do a long press to the power button, the keyboard is not working anymore after the freezing. Yes I tried some hot keys without any response.

You shouldn't "try some hot keys" but press the alt and SysRq keys and keep them pressed, and then tap the R, E, I, S, U and B keys in sequence.

Note: I tried my software on about more than five machines but the same result freezing. every thing freeze and debug can't remember the last moment before freezing.

I am sorry, but I doubt that we can help further.
Ubuntu 10.04 is not supported any more, and the repositories have been removed.
If your software is crashing on different systems, then you have to debug your software.
Do you have access to the source? Can you add logging? Can you run the software under a debugger (e.g. gdb)?

Thank you very much for your replays, yes i know i must debug my software but the problem is that i don't have all the sources. so i can't run it under debugger. but if i could reach the source code; what could you suggest a debugger software for me.
Thanks
