IPv6 archive.canonical.com

Asked by Marco Davids

My sources.list contains, among other lines:

deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu bionic partner

I work in an IPv6-only environment.

Even though archive.canonical.com has an IPv6 record (AAAA), the name servers for that domain have not (ns[123].canonical.com).

Hence, I can not properly update from an IPv6-only environment, where also the resolvers only work via IPv6.

In my case the other entries in sources.list are 'nl.archive.ubuntu.com', 'help.ubuntu.com' and 'security.ubuntu.com'.

They do seem to resolve well, although help.ubuntu.com only have an IPv4 address.

Is this something Canonical would be willing to fix? The solution seems trivial.

There's already a quite old bug report about that issue, Bug #776040
The last comment indicates that this might finally be done before the end of this year..

Can you help with this problem?
