Sound and video stopped after streaming

Asked by anggorodewanto

Hi,
I've been using Ubuntu for some time now. And i've been experiencing this problem since i started using Hardy.
My problem is after i stream video or audio with my web-browser (i'm using Firefox, Opera, and Seamonkey), all sounds are stopped and video and audio files cannot be played. But i still can continue streaming audio and audio without problems. Even after i closed the web-browser, the problem still exist. My only way to solve this is to restart my laptop.

Can anybody help?

Hi,

Did you upgrade from Feisty to Hardy?
Were those browsers installed on Feisty?
Did you try to uninstall them and then re-install them?

Check if you have pending or missing packages:

sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get --fix-missing install
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoremove

Kind regards

Nope, I was using Feisty, but i didn't UPGRADE it. I REINSTALL it.
So, all of them are Hardy-version.

What are your plugins for Firefox?
Have you installe mplayer plugins?

If not, search in synaptic for mplayer plugins mozilla.
Then install it and see if that helps.

My Firefox Plugins are:
Default Plugin, DivX Web Player, Helix DNA plugin: RealPlayer G2 Plug-In Compatible, Java plugin, Picasa, QuickTime, Shockwave Flash, Totem Web Browser, VLC multimedia: totem, Windows Media Player: totem.

I think i had mplayer plugin but erased it. Isn't totem or VLC plugin enough?

Hello,

Are you playing multiple sounds simultaneously? Because PulseAudio might help that... http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=776739&page=1

No, i tried to play them one by one.
I've experimented with my problem, and the only cause of my problem is a web-browser play streamed sounds.

Ah, ALSA just solve my problem!
I tried with PulseAudio but it went off after i streamed. When i tried with ALSA, my sounds works just fine.

Thanks for all your answers guys!
