16.04 LTS. Brightness & Lock setting. Set to turn screen off when inactive 1 min. Turns off OK, but does not come back. Keyboard useless. Mouse useless. Nothing brings the screen back. I have to cut power to machine, reboot. Also happened w/14.04 LTS

It happened w/14.04 LTS, just after a clean install. So I thought that upgrading to 16.04 LTS would fix it. But now I have 16.04, all software up-to-date, and the problem still happens.

I think that it should happen that, after the screen goes dark, I strike any key, or move the mouse, and the screen comes back.

To deal with this, I have set Brightness & Lock to "Never" turn the screen off. I can turn off the monitor with its power button. But 12.04 LTS spoiled me, because it does not have this problem. With 12.04, the screen would turn off as directed, and turn on again with any keystrike.

Info on my machine from Setup:

Dell System 8400
BIOS Version A04 (01/10/05)
Intel Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz
Hyper-Threading: ON
NIC (Integrated Network Interface): ON

Power Management settings:
AC Recovery: OFF
Low Power Mode: OFF
Remote Wake Up: OFF
Suspend Mode: S3 (Conserves more power than S1)

Maybe change Suspend Mode to S1, and/or Remote Wakeup to ON?
