Dell Latitude E5500 dual Monitor

Asked by Delvin

Hello,

I just recently (as of today that is) updated my Ubuntu installation from 16.04 LTS to 18.4 LTS and along the way - for some reason, my Dell Latitude E5500 will no longer support a dual monitor configuration :/ - When i hook up the second monitor, my primary monitor (laptop display) goes dark and alternates between black screen and a purple at a rate of about 1/2 second and the cursor arrow remains visible

My hardware consists of: Intel Core 2 Duo Processors (speed 2.6 Ghz); "Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family" (what Windows 7 is reporting for my Display Adapter); 4 GB of memory.

If more information is needed on the hardware, please let me know and any help would be greatly welcomed.
Thx in advance

Just found out a little bit more information that may help.

When Linux boots and switches to the GUI interface, both of my monitors are recognized and functioning. It is after I log on to the system that things appear to go wrong, my secondary monitor displays a message to "check the cables" and my laptop display goes black displaying the arrow cursor that flashes about once every second. If I move my mouse, the cursor also moves.

Hope this helps and thx in advance.

Also - if I unplug my second monitor - the laptop display works correctly.

Also - just thought that it might help to list the second display - it is an LG IPS LED Flatron - Model IPS235 - Doh! 8(
