Grub blocking access to computer(except live disk) due to malfunctioning ubuntu install. How to use live disk boot options or command line to override.

Asked by postersandguitar

After a ubuntu installation that went wrong due to a scratched disk, my old install was removed, and no new install can be added because I can't burn a new cd since my cd drive is occupied by the live disk.

So, I was wondering if there is a way to bypass grub and skip ahead to my vista partition( to burn a new ubuntu disk) using the boot options or command line from the live disk.

Hi,

I have not checked if it works, but here is a way to restore grub from the live CD (without burning or reinstalling anything):

At least this would let you boot on whatever partition that is still OK.

It's not clear why the install process went wrong at one point, though. Were you installing a beta version of Ubuntu?

Hope this helps!

Can you help with this problem?
