Disk format and 9.04

Asked by Bob

Disk format and 9.04

When the new version of Ubuntu 9.04 (?) is released later this month I am planning on making the jump and formatting my machine. I am currently duel booting with windows Vista and 8.10.

Can someone point me to detailed directions on how to format my machine and make suggestions on how to partition my drive and why? Or maybe just keep it one drive.

If possible I am looking for instructions on all steps form downloading the new version, making a CD, format and installation.

I know this may be a tall order so I thank you all in advance. Bob.

Thanks Sam, that is a lot of information to digest for my question.

It seems there is too much information concerning windows which I am not going to use.

The first link includes all the information about installation e.g. from LiveCD including a partition manager.

Download .iso, burn .iso, boot from CD, install Ubuntu, done.
