Has anyone been able to report Wayland/gnome-shell bugs using ubuntu-bug?

Running 18.04
I spent over 8 hours trying to report bug 1789962 for a gnome-shell crash when running Wayland. Nothing suggested works. I can create the .crash files, see a traceback, etc. but it is never uploaded. I think that the bug reporting tools don't take wayland into account and silently barf. Has anyone been able to do this?
