BBC news videos launch three embedded kmplayers

Asked by Paul Worrall

When trying to view any of the videos on http://news.bbc.co.uk, the popup window for the BBC News Player contains what looks like three partially overlapping instances of embedded kmplayer. The sound from each one plays a fraction of a second out of sync. I have chosen the real player option on the BBC website and kmplayer is set to use the Xine movie player. I have installed the w32codecs package.

Doing some investigation, I have found that:
1. Disabling Javascript is a workaround - I get only one embedded kmplayer in the same window (i.e. not a popup), but there is other stuff on news.bbc.co.uk that requires Javascript so this is not an ideal fix.
2. Configuring kmplayer to use mplayer gives three mplayers but each in their own windows
3. Choosing the "windows media player" option (via the 'preferences' links on the website) does not play with either Xine or MPlayer backends

I am using a recent fresh installation of Kubuntu feisty. I suspect it may be a bug with Javascript in Konqueror but I've not found anything similar at bugs.kde.org.
