Do an extra 4 hyper threaded cores make Ubuntu faster

Please compare Ubuntu 16.04 and 18.04 for 4 cores vs. 8 cores for OS performance.

Yes, any additional cores will allow processes to run more smoothly.
For normal desktop use the real world benefits are only slight. For more CPU intensive tasks like SQL or video rendering then this will make their tasks complete more swiftly.

What is your real question please? More cores ultimately makes a system faster. This is known.....
