screen washed out look, lenovo X220 running ubuntu16.04

This could be a hardware issue as It got rained on. Are there any adjustments to fine tune the screen. It's washed out looking and gets light like in negative around any windows. Any feedback will be much appreciated.

If you boot another distribution (not Ubuntu based....like Suse) is it the same?
If you boot a Windows install CD, is it the same.
I suspect the water damage is the culprit here
