Would like to set up Open VPN. Simply and easily , I do not have programming savvy.

Asked by J. Zand

I am a senior citizen. The only programming language I learned was BASIC. I have forgotten more than I remember even about that. I have used torrents for the past ten years to download television programs I enjoy to be able to watch without commercials. (Its as if the cost for watching free broadcast is watching the endless mind numbing commercials). Of course, I have downloaded other programs and applications but I don't feel like a Pirate, even though that's they say what I am. Believe me, if I could pay for the programs or applications I download; I would. Net Neutrality was certainly protection for the little folk... because I am now feeling the blows of backlash for infractions that might have once been overlooked or ignored. I have been warned nine times that my internet access will be terminated since net neutrality was overruled. I've even switched back to Ubuntu. I am on fixed income. I'm sure you've heard that one before....but it makes a difference in your budget when you can get some things at little or no cost. Especially, entertainment. I am allowed 1T to download each month. I use 1% of that, more or less. So, with this data you can see that my activity is minimal. I would simply like to be able to download some programs with anonymity. I believe I can use OpenVPN without difficulty. I have downloaded the package and also used Synaptic Package Manager (once I realized it was still available -- my last installment of Ubuntu was version 11.0). I am having trouble with installing the package and configuring the software. I am not sure of the difference between DCHP and DNS. I'm using DNS because the instructions were easy to follow, but I don't know how it effects other dependencies. I do not know if I need to install a Tunnel or if it is auto-magically included. I would like some really easy and simple step by step instructions, and if possible an explanation at each step for the installation of VPN software. If you have time to help a 'poor' Senior citizen get sorted out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

DNS and DHCP are completely different technologies. You don't "choose" between, you need both

Just install the OpenVPN client from the repositories then use your username / password and IP to connect your VPN

Can you help with this problem?
