Ubuntu 18.04.1 slow and freeze when clearing recent list

ubuntu 18.04.1 is slow, recent list contains 490 items, when trying to clear list its showing preparing to delete and it freeze. tried 3 time rebooting, but still issue. please suggest. laptop conf i3, 4gb ram, 500 gb HD, 2 gb amd radeon graphics card.

I solved the problem from settings
settings-->privacy-->usage&history-->clear recent history.

but still don't know the cause of the problem.

Can Anybody help with this issue. i still got freezing issue recently. Only when recent list items are around 15 it gets cleared without freezing from recent folder
