Why does multiseat Lubuntu keep locking up and rebooting?

Asked by ezst036

This is a fresh install of Lubuntu 18.04.1, and as soon as it gets to the login screens of multiseat it locks up hard(mouse does not move) and reboots after 5-10 seconds. I only did these three things:

1) Wipe drive, install fresh, reboot into newly installed system
2) Assign second video card to second seat with systemd/loginctl
3) Reboot to multiseat configuration

When I realized it was rebooting as soon as reaching the login screen, I reset back to defaults with one seat and ran apt-get system update. I changed one of the video cards as well. It still keeps rebooting when configured for multiseat.

The second time around of this rebooting, I just let it keep locking up and rebooting. I did not keep count, but I think on the 7th reboot it finally stayed up and mutliseat does work.

I suggest you test your RAM using Memtest86 from GRUB as a good starting point

Ran Memtest86 off of the Ubuntu boot ISO, passed with zero errors. There were four passes in total throughout the night. Whatever is happening, it is probably not bad RAM.

I also need to make a correction: This was with Xubuntu 18.04.1 not Lubuntu. At the time I started a download of Lubuntu but I have yet to install it and see what happens. I did however use a different test drive with another distro already installed and multi-seat works just fine.

Thank you for your quick response.
