grub-efi-amd64-signed package failed to install in / target/.

Asked by Marc

During install, I got the message "the grub-efi-amd64-signed package failed to install in / target/."

So I installed KDE Neon 16.04.
During the neon install, I got a popup about using efi or not.
When I selected efi, I got the same result as with Kubuntu 18.04, when I chose not to use efi, all went well.
Problem: Kubuntu did not give me the choice of using efi or not, it just assumed an efi install, while the disk is in dos format.

The Samsung laptop has a dual boot W10 (in place upgrade from W7),
and when I look at the output of fdisk, the disk has the dos partitioning on it.

Am I correct that Kubuntu does not correctly detect the dos disk partitioning format,
so this is a bug ?

I selected /dev/sda6 as my / partition and left the default /dev/sda for installation of the bootsector

There have been a lot of issues with EFI installs with networking enabled since about July 10

I tried the install with and without network enabled, there is no difference.

In the mean time I found in the BIOS something called boot override, and there I have the choice to boot the installation USB medium with or without uefi.
I'll give it a try next week, as now I really need W10 to run an application that does not work on linux.

This application is the only reason why I still dual boot, it is a drawing program for electrical schematics according to Belgian electrical safety standards, and unfortunately it does not run on linux (wine)
