running Ubuntu using Virtualbox

I have downloaded virtual box and i am trying to run ubuntu. It runs extremely slow. When the desktop opens, it takes at least 20 minutes in order to sign in, then when i click on the search button it takes another 20 minutes to open in order to search for terminal. I had added the memory for ubuntu but it is not making anything better.

How much RAM and CPU did you give the VM?

In VMs I always suggest Lubuntu or Xubuntu. They are lighter and will impact your host less.
