Ubuntu crashed restore firefox bookmarks and passwords.

Asked by Warren Hill on 2018-06-06

Ubuntu crashed recently and stopped booting.

I have replaced the hard disk and installed Ubuntu on it.

I have the hard disk that crashes mounted in a USB caddy so I am able to mount the file system and recover files from it. I also have a backup of my home directory that is about a month old how can transfer my firefox bookmarks and passwords.

Thanks in advance Warren.

Just copy the old

.mozilla

Folder from your old user's home to your new one. You may need to chown it to your new user. I assume you don't use thunderbird for email.

If the data is important to you why are your backups not more frequent?

As far as Firefox is concerned I only need my book marks and saved passwords so 1 month old is OK.

For project specific files I save much more frequently.

I have two rolling separate storage devices for each of my clients which I update every day anything changes in their projects, I have two devices for my own data too. I also backup \home and \var\www once a month.

This worked, Thanks ActionParsnip.
