Ubuntu wont boot need to restore Email

Ubuntu crashed recently and stopped booting.

I have replaced the hard disk and installed Ubuntu on it. I have also installed evolution.

I have the hard disk that crashes mounted in a USB caddy so I am able to mount the file system and recover files from it. I also have a backup of my home directory that is about a month old how can transfer my contacts and emails to my new machine.

Similarly If there is an easy way to recover my bookmarks and passwords for firefox this would be an help though I can probably live without that
