audiophile 2496 no output after hibernate 16.04 LTS

I have a separate Audiophile 2496 soundcard that worked great until I hibernated the system after this card is shown but no sound. Onboard soundcard on mobo works fine. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling pule /alsa + a bunch of other stuff but no luck

There are like a gazillon possible answers to this and I muct have tried nearly al of the to the point of losinh *all* sound yesterday (fixed after a system recovery) but still no joy

Have you tried disabling the onboard sound?

NO, as, before I had the choice of both. Is this really the only solution?
