After upgrade to 8.04 system slows dramatically

Asked by Marvin

System "hangs" for minutes at a time. Opening, closing, choosing menu items, etc. Even closing system will not respond. I have even had long delays after entering ctrl-alt-del to close system. Help. I have had to go back to 7.10 which is no longer supported in the mean time thats where I am now.
Thanks.
Marvin

Hi,

You don't provide a lot of information, so it's difficult to help. However, I guess you have some issues with the tracker daemon (the thing which is scanning the disk from time to time to index keywords, which makes the search much faster).

Try to go In System -> Preferences -> Search and Indexing, and disable "indexing".

If it does not work, when the system is hanging, open System -> Administration -> System monitor and look at the program that makes the system busy. If you know which program is doing that, it will be much easier to help.

I am getting the same problem. System is responding very slow. I have 4 GB of RAM, 14 GB dedicated to linux.
1600 MB for swap space and rest for root.

Can you help with this problem?
