MBR patition scheme for BIOS or UEFI

Asked by Rick Miller

Is there a command I could run that would set the MBR for BIOS or UEFI? This is the only way that Xubuntu/Linux will run from pendrive without lagging. I found this out the hard way. If you use 'Rufus" to D/l any Ubuntu distro, it will offer this option as default, however, it doesn't carry on when you "install". EXPLANATION: I'm 'trying" to run Xubuntu 17.10 as 'desktop" from a Lexar 16GB-3.0 pendrive and from past experience I know that MBR for BIOS or UEFI is the only way it will work properly.

Thanks:

Rick

Why 17.10? It is end of life in July this year

18.04 is not only newer but is LTS and supported until April 2023. Does Bionic work OK for you?

Hey Andrew:

The question here is not about the iso. I explained why I need to configure the MBR to option BIOS or UFIE. That's all I can say. Unless you know of a way I can install an .iso to flashdrive and get it to work properly? This past time I had to use Rufus because it provides this option. Only problem with Rufus is that it doesn't support persistence.

By the way....it was suggested I use DD and I did except: sudo dd if=xubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso did nothing. So it seems I did not configure the command properly???

AND... I said it backwards...my apologies....I must configue the UFEI/BIOS to accept the MBR instead of GPT.
