18.04 could not install 'menu'

Asked by Robert Pearson

When updating from 17.10 to 18.04 an error window opens with the following:

Could not install 'menu'

The upgrade will continue but the 'menu' package may not be in a working state. Please consider submitting a bug report about it.

I hit this also and my distribution upgrade has stalled at "Installed libkmod2". Many apps fail to open in the stalled state, for example I can't even open a terminal to run the `apt-cache policy menu` command.

I'm stuck in the middle of the upgrade.

When I click on close, it instantly reopens the error, and the upgrade doesn't advance.

What is the output please?

The computer was not rebooting properly so I had to do a dpkg --configure -a in recovery mode

Anyways here is the output.

@Robert P: I have just given instructions how to get rid of the "404" and "no release file" errors in your other question document https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/668753.

@EmiL: Do not misuse somebody else's question document for your problem, but create your own question document.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Robert Pearson for more information if necessary.
