18.04 wifi broadcom bcm4356 not working

after upgrading to 18.04 from 17.10 wireless doesnt work.
kernel 4.15.0-20
chipset bcm4356, using brcmfmac.
dmesg:
brcmfmac: brcmf_msgbuf_query_dcmd: Timeout on response for query command
brcmfmac: brcmf_c_preinit_dcmds: Retreiving cur_etheraddr failed, -5
brcmfmac: brcmf_bus_started: failed: -5
brcmfmac: brcmf_pcie_attach_bus: dongle is not responding

device is not soft/hard blocked.

how can I fix?

Thanks. I have previously tried to fix my problem using the solutions provided there but with no luck.

The problem seems to be in the newer linux-firmware version 1.173. Manually installing firmware 1.169 resolves the issue. Can this be resolved in a future firmware release?
