loss of video & wifi with generic kernel but lowlatency ok, ideas?

Asked by Galen Thurber

I've searched and have not found why this is happening.
Xubuntu 16.04 64bit LTS with current updates
Systemd related issues I'm guessing is causing loss of proper video & wifi when booting to a generic kernel.
I've tested the system with two lowlatency kernels and drivers load properly.

Anyone have links or ideas?

Did you install the linux-image-extra-(version)-generic package in addition to linux-image-(version)-generic?

If you have a bug then you don't need a question as well.
