can't run synaptic : gtk warning cannot open display 0:

when i try to open synaptic i got this message:

Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyUnable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused

(synaptic:31943): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0

what to do ?

What is the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; apt-cache policy synaptic

What you see probably is caused by wayland that is not allowing to run applications as root with sudo.

Dis you accidentally purge something under /var/run or the entire directoy? What if synptic is called from a terminal with "sudo synaptic"?
