Ubuntu 8.10 numeric keypad will not function in generic keyboard layout

Asked by Owen Fisher

I just posted on IRC Mozilla that their registration for Litmus is not working. I thought I would be able to use IRC to interact with Launchpad? Anyway the issue is that I am running on XP right now. In Ubuntu 8.10, the keyboard layout gives no option for Gateway, model SK-9920, so I opted for generic. I am muli-lingual and have an EU keyboard layout with: Ñ,Ç, ¿, €, etc. The numeric pad has arrows and other functions. The problem is that it will not show numbers when I test it in Ubuntu 8.10. I have been using the top line of the keyboard, however I would like to be able to use the numeric pad. How can I get this to function?

You might have enabled the 'mouse keys' by mistake. Try again after pressing Shift+NumLock.

Thank you this appears to have solved the problem! In Ubutnu 8.10, I had to go back to System- Preferences - Keyboard- click on Mouse key tab and un-checking the option for, "pointer can be controlled using the key pad"

When Bloq Num is on the arrow function are dropped, however when it is on there is numeric pad function!
