up dated ubuntu now wont start

What release of Ubuntu?
What do you see when you boot up? Does GRUB show OK?

Details please....

can't find any where where it says GRUB is ok only when booting on
top of screen GHU GRUB Version 2.02 beta 2-36 ubuntu 3.18
It was working OK till I updated , after the update was finished I was
told to restart , after desk top is loaded it stops working . As you can
see in the photo none of the icons on the left show up I can open any
of the icons on desktop but can't delete them , also any Icon with a
http address will go on the Internet , also can't delete that off
screen,,,, Hope you can work some thing out , I have a ubuntu 10.10
netbook disk but couldn't boot from it , not that I have that version on
here . it may be I have to start it from windows , which i haven't used
for years

If you select an older kernel does the system boot OK?

I haven't heard back from you I have found that it will boot up as a
guest, may be I need a 16.04 LTS dick to fix the problem Regards John
