How can I find Ubuntu files from Windows XP? (dual boot system)

Asked by Dave

So, I had a Windows XP, then I resized the partition and installed Ubuntu 6.06 on the same hdd, using grub.
Now I am learning Ubuntu and managed to find out how to mount the partition and access my old XP files from the Ubuntu, but I still have no idea how to get to my Ubuntu files when I load XP.
XP just shows smaller (resized C: disk) and no signs of the new Ubuntu files, which are physically on the same hdd. How can I find my Ubuntu files from Windows XP?

I had a similar issue once. Windows can only see FAT, FAT32, and NTFS formatted partitions (maybe more). If you used Ubuntu ext2 or ext3, or resierfs formatting, Windows will have no idea they exist. I created a partition with FAT32 on it so both Linux and Windows can access the data on there. So whatever file you create in Ubuntu that you later want available in Windows, either save it to the new FAT32 partition or go ahead and save it in the Windows NTFS partition. I don't trust NTFS completely yet, so that is why I created the FAT32 partition.

The biggest problem FAT has ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Allocation_Table ) is a limitation of the filesize.
You do not need to change to FAT. If you use files that are larger than 4GB ( Images, Blu-ray movies, etc. ), try http://www.fs-driver.org/

Hi dude

Install this software called Explore2fs and then you should be able to see your Ubuntu Files by running the software.

Can you help with this problem?
