Internet connection Ubuntu 8.10

Asked by astralpilot

Hi there

Just installed Ubuntu 8.10 on a dual boot system with Windows XP running as the other operating system.
Boot up is via a grub menu.
Just cannot connect to the internet with Ubuntu where in Windows everything works fine.
Has anybody got an idea what the problem could be or if I have to configure it somehow.
Fairly new to Ubuntu and had a look through network settings etc and everything seems fine.
When I open Firefox, it just doesn't show me the start page. Intead it says website not found.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

I have a NTL/Virgin Broadband connection, connected through a SMC Barricade router onto an ethernet port on my computer.
