Upgrade to 8.10 or wait for 9.04...?

Asked by clombard

Lately this 8.04 is acting off and on as I increase my Home Network.
Do you think an upgrade to 8.10 is worth the time or will 9.04 be a dream
come true in a few weeks?
Thanks

Early in March, I had a problem with my 8.04 installation (I caused the problem) and the only cure of which I could think was to "wipe" my computer and effect a clean re-installation. (I used DBAN to wipe the computer - it did it overnight - and it took a few hours in an afternoon to re-install Ubuntu and reconfigure my computer.)

As I had the 'Intrepid' disc, I chose to install it instead of 'Hardy.'

It works just fine (my self-caused problem is gone) and it will be interesting to find out if 'Intrepid' can actually upgrade itself properly to 'Jaunty' in a couple of weeks.

If you're having a problem, I suggest installing 'Intrepid.' If the program does in fact subsequently upgrade itself to 'Jaunty' (through the updating service), you will be saving yourself another re-installation as I believe that you cannot automatically upgrade from 'Hardy' to 'Jaunty.'

At the very least, you will be eliminating an obvious source of frustration with your home network.

##my guess

However, no way to jump from 8.04 to 9.04, without upgrading first to 8.10 to get to 9.04
Or complete reinstallation of 9.04
Or if patient you may go from current LTS to the next LTS (10.04 LTS, in April 2010)

OK thanks...I already backed-up Hardy and will install 8.10 looking to transition to 9.04 in a few weeks.
