Boot to live CD / USB desktop and chroot into the installed OS. You can then troubleshoot your boot. I also suggest you run a full fsck on all Linux partitions to make sure they are all healthy

Have you performed a file system check on all Linux partitions?

I run sudo fsck /dev/xxx and now have both Ubuntu systems working. Thank very much Manfred Hampl for your help. You seem to be the one that gets me up and running. Thank you again. Now if i could get Scorched3D to work on my Ubuntu 16.04.4LTS systems i would be a happy camper. But that is another question. Tks. again
