Jaunty: Where can I find a list of the most recent notifications?

Asked by Bernhard

OK, so just trying to make myself familiar with the new notification system in jaunty. It looks nicer than before but it seems they disappear very quickly. Is there a way to configure as to how long they pop up? And if I missed one notification, is there a list of the most recent ones where I can look it up again? (I just had an unusual notification about my network and it disappeared too quickly.)

Hi,
you may take a look at logfiles, e.g. daemon.log
system administration -> system log (graphical log viewer)
If it isn't in the list of the tree it can be opened via menu -> file
You'll get a browser window directly in /var/log, navigate to daemon.log or daemon.log.0

The new notification system is mentioned here
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JauntyJackalope/TechnicalOverview
but unfortunately not where the timeout can be configured. You may claim a bug for it and developers will have a look at the source code or the team will add it to wishlist.

Found something about the new notification system.
So maybe there is an option for config in gconf-editor e.g. /apps/panel/

panel applet called "Indicator Applet"

I actually filed a bug here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/notify-osd/+bug/355897
I checked out the indicator_applet in gconf but I couldn't find how to configure "time". All I saw was

position 4

and I remember that there also was some GUI that configured the position of the notifications, but I forgot which it was and it didn't really make a big difference if I remember correctly. Honestly, I never got the hype about these new notifications, they look nicer now but there were timed notifications before jaunty as well.

Hi Bernhard,
successfully found information about a log where you can check notifications since you've logged in.
