installing sketchup in lubuntu 17.10 with play on and gets stuck at creating virtual drive

I get to the point where it reports installing then creating virtual drive then just watch the little icon spin for 2 hours and finally cancel

What technology are you using to setup your VM? Is this in Virtualbox? VMWare? QEMU?

What OS is the host system please?

According to the sketchup website it will run in a Web browser. Why would you need anything else than what is installed on your system. It may require chrome as a browser but that's easy enough to install.....
