How to install skype on Ubuntu 8.04
I tried downloading skype .
was unable to do so.

Skype is not available from Ubuntu official repositories as it is a proprietary software.
You can download it from:

Also, make sure you choose the right package for your P.C. (i.e. i386, 64bit, LPIA). This may have been an issue. I am not sure what exactly was the original problem was.
Following Arnaud's instructions and picking the correct architecture you should be "A okay."

personally I'm using v often its repos to get skype installed on various ubuntu releases - it works v well;
I just noticed that skype is available for lpia architecture too (mind you I never tried it on lpia) but I heard that it works great. give it a try and let us know the results - it'll help other users.
