Keyboard & Mouse Not Function Correcly

Hello,
I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS-64bit OS. For several months now keyboard and mouse are not functioning correctly when I click on a tab in a browser using the mouse it's as if the pointer is off when selecting a tab or an email it's not precise it's off it's mark which is a pain to do. I have to close out browser and email program Thunderbird and start all over again It jams me up. I did unplug key- board and mouse as troubleshooting but nothing..same. Now I do know my keyboard and mouse function fine before the recent update many months ago..any help would be appreciated...

If you log in as guest is it OK?
Are other applications affected?
Does the mouse have a make and model?
