Ubuntu 64bit unable to install properly on vmware

Asked by wolvorine

I have Windows 10 64bit , on Intel Processor 64 bit
System Type x64-based PC
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6560U CPU @ 2.20GHz, 2208 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
With
Intel Virtualization Technology = Yes
intel Hyper thread technology = Yes
intel (R) 64 Architecture = Yes

==================================

I have downloaded the ISO file of UBUNTU
Ubuntu-16.04.3-desktop--amd64

VmWare version : 11

Steps:

1. I have created a virtual machine on the VMWARE with 45 gb disk , default 1 cpu and 1 core.
2. I have put new id and password time of virtual machine creation on the vmware according to it its called easy installation.
3. First time it runs and shows the ubuntu screen and then it shows an error
"The installer encountered an unrecoverable and will now boot" on the ubuntu UI before login dialog.
4. Afterward it restarted itself and gives multiple strange errors like cpufreq_online: Failed to initialize policy for cpu : 0
followed by (initramfs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system

Some more VM tests:
====================
5. I tried to delete the VM again and again and everytime a new pattern I have encountered, once I came on the GUI screen and then it gave me a display error with graphics glitches before login dialog and then restarted again.
6. I tried with another VM and this time I reached on the main login screen of Ubuntu where the password and id were not accepted at all the one which I have entered at the time of making VM.

I have spent almost like 2 days but I am unable to understand why this is not working, i have searched many places but there is no straight answer for me. I have deleted and used numerous different ways by enabling or disabling options in the VM options, like increasing the memory , processors , cores but it does not work.

Kindly guide me how I can solve this issue since this is the first time I am trying to install the ubuntu.

Now it is displaying error on the console screen as "can't open dev/sr1/ : No medium found".

I have tried ubuntu iso version ubuntu-17.04-desktop-amd64 and got the same issues as this. Including

Thanks for the replies @actionparsnip

Following steps has solved my problem:

1) Update the Vmware from version 10 to 12.
2) Vmware machine CPU set for 4 with 1 core.
3) Memory set at 4 GB.

After doing these steps everything started working fine and Ubuntu installed successfully. Now I am using it without any problem.
