If you boot to an older kernel is it OK?

The kernel version checked by uname is "4.10.0-42-generic #46~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Dec 4 15:57:59 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux", which was updated in last month. No problem has been identified since that kernel update. I've autoremoved older kernel versions.

The mentioned problem starts today since a regular update. As I remember they include "Apport, Webkit, etc".

This is quite similar to issue by another user: https://askubuntu.com/questions/992041/launcher-and-alttab-crashes-desktop

Thanks

I also tried to re-install compiz and and reboot. Voila I got an error report about compiz which had been sent to Ubuntu automatically. Problem remains the same but no more error report generated.

I just read other posts. Seems it's related to a MESA update on Jan 4.

Ubuntu 16.04.3 64bit on 3 computers:

1) Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU P7350 @ 2.00GHz × 2 Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset Display Mobile 4 Series : Affected on both older kernel & 4.13.26

2) Intel Atom N450 Intel NM10 Express Chipset Displat Intel GMA 3150 : no problem on older kernel & 4.13.26

3) Intel I3-7100 B250 Chipset Display Intel® HD Graphics 630 : no desktop problem on older kernel & 4.13.26. Intel AC7265 wifi occasionally stops responding w/o bug report and needs reboot.

Further info about the occasional stop of Intel AC7265 wifi. These info were captured before I reboot the computer.

restart networkmanager / ifconfig down up all could not solve it.
