Server not found Lubuntu 16.04 TP Link Mr6400 Inspiron 1525

Asked by John Sanz

I have an old Dell Inspiron 1525 32 bit running Ubuntu 14.04 using Firefox via a very slow landline broadband so I bought a TP Link MR6400 sim card enabled router. All went successfully until I installed Lubuntu 16.04 after which although the laptop can see the TP Link, I only get "Server not found" whenever I try to access a website. I have also installed Chromium but get the same results.

If, however, I return to the old landline router, then the laptop can access the web as before. Further, another old laptop running Windows 10 and Firefox can access the TP Link successfully.

How can I get the Dell and the TP LInk to communicate properly? Or should I just buy more RAM and replace Lubuntu with Ubuntu 16.04?

If you run:

ifconfig

Do you see an IP address on the interface? If so can you ping 8.8.8.8 OK?

My earlier reply seems to have vanished into the ether, so here's hoping.
This are the results using the TP Link MR6400 router wired to a TP Link WA901ND Wireless Access point as there is a very thick stone wall between the router and the Dell.

I hope that this can help solve the problem.
