UI very slow, display changes from top of the screen down, like a scan
This system was setup by a vendor, and right from the beginning, the UI has been slow. However, a week ago, it became extremely slow.
The xorg/lightdm process was pegging the CPU at 100%. Restarting the computer did not fix this. I updated the OS (apt-get dist-upgrade), which resulted in a faster system. xorg is no longer pegging the CPU.
But now the graphics system renders very slowly. Anything results in a big difference on screen, like moving a window, results in the window getting re-rendered by a horizontal line starting at the top of the screen moving down to the bottom. This is also true for video. They are unwatchable.
This is not running on a liveCD.
All the hardware info is found in the output below. It is connected to a 19" Dell LCD screen via a VGA cable.
