xprintidle or equivalent for Ubuntu 17.10 Wayland

Asked by DanglingPointer

I have a program KeepAwake (https://launchpad.net/keep.awake) which uses xprintidle to determine user idle time.
The program stopped working in Ubuntu 17.10 unless I use X.

Is there something similar for Wayland in Ubuntu 17.10?

If not, is there anything similar or equivalent I can do to determine user idle time (no keyboard, mouse or touch or any user interaction).

Thanks in advance...

Do you mean idle time as in no input from mouse or keyboard? I've not used this application. If this is correct then I can hunt for an alternative

Thanks for replying back Andrew!

Yes that's what I wrote in the brackets... "(no keyboard, mouse or touch or any user interaction)."

If you have anything less that 17.10 the try sudo apt install xprintidle and you'll see how it works. It is used extensively in scripts and applications.

Thanks in advance!

You may be able to contact the Wayland devs to see if this is possible or what solutions there are.

How does 17.10 figure out user idle time for power management?

Can anyone help me? Ubuntu doesn't use Weston which all the Wayland Devs only care about.

How does Ubuntu 17.10 determine user-idleness?

You better ask the wayland developers
I recommend that you start at https://wayland.freedesktop.org/
