SMB share breaking

Hi,

I have a Ubuntu 16.04 desktop sharing a folder via SMB to a Windows Server machine. Every few weeks to a month or so the SMB share breaks. What I mean is from the Windows machine if I type in the path to the share there is nothing there. To get shared folders to appear I would have to login to the Ubuntu machine and click into the shared folder, and suddenly on the Windows machine it would appear again.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Have you checked your samba log in /var/log

It may give clues
