How can I get my PPA listed in Jaunty or Intrepid?

Asked by Bryan on 2009-04-01

I have started a PPA at https://launchpad.net/~brywilharris/+archive/ppa and I have uploaded packages for both jaunty and intrepid. However, whenever I build a package, debuild complains that I have an "invalid distribution". When I search the PPA's for my package, veusz, I don't get any results. Are these problems related? I have checked and the ppa works just fine when I add it to my sources.list.

I have also submitted the package at REVU and I get warnings there that my signature hasn't been signed by a trusted authority. I think I understand why I'm getting that message. I wondered if there was some sort of formal process I need to go through to get officially blessed by Ubuntu?

This is the page you need to see:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/NewPackages

If you have any questions about this use FreeNode IRC (chat.freenode.org) in an IRC client and join either #ubuntu-motu or #ubuntu-devel and someone will most likely assist you. But I beg you to read the above page as it explains mostly everything in detail.

As far as inclusion in this release, it may not be possible simply because of "freezes" in effect and many milestones have already passed. I do not know what your package(s) do or anything, however this is up to you anyway.

You will need to keep up with different things.

The other thing you can do promote your package to users by yourself and have them use your PPA as their source to download. Please see how Shutter handles this:
https://launchpad.net/~shutter

Also, about your PGP key. This is very, very important for a developer.

Please see this guide:
http://www.ubuntu-unleashed.com/2008/02/beginners-guide-for-gnupg-in-ubuntu.html
Make sure this is up-to-make in your Launchpad profile (just click on "Change Details" when logged in on your profile's main page, up-to-date on key servers, and up-to-date in your e-mail client (whether you use EnigMail or what not).

Cheers,

Craig
